Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III | How to Train Your Dragon | Ravenclaw 5th or Durmstrang transfer
1. I know we have lots going on so feel free to ignore this if you want u.u
It's still kinda weird to think of Hiccup like that. How they went from tutoring lessons to hanging out and trusting each other with their troubles and stories (and sassy humor), he still isn't sure, but he likes it that way. With them both being lonely guys, having a friend like this is what they've always needed, so it simply works. And let's not forget about the fact Hiccup has actually helped Jack with his studies! Who could've thought that was possible? That's true magic, alright.
So here they are now, with the school year about to finish, only a couple of tests left, and Ravenclaw going against Gryffindor for the cup. It's a good thing that the whole school takes a break to watch the final match and Slytherin isn't playing, that way Jack can go around unnoticed. Hiccup may be the captain, but he still isn't exactly popular, so he doesn't get his own banners or songs. Thankfully he has Jack to take care of that - he prepared some spells that threw bright lights up in the air and wrote cheering messages, all of them in bright green. Not for Slytherin pride or any bullshit like that, he chose the color of Hiccup's eyes. (Jack has found himself staring a lot at them lately.)
It's not like Hiccup really needs the support in the end, Ravenclaw sweeps the floor with the lion team easily, but Jack likes to think the effort will be appreciated anyway. He's happy for his friend, he really is, but he can't help frowning a bit when he sees all the students running to the field to hug and congratulate the players. Sure, they're all smiles now, but tomorrow they'll go back to ignore Hiccup like they usually do. Bunch of assholes, of all them, Jack thinks.
There will probably be a mini-party in the common room, Jack knows, but is Hiccup joining them? He isn't exactly the kind of guy to party, though he does deserve a bit of fun for a change... well, can't hurt to check. After most of the people are gone, Jack sneaks his way into the Ravenclaw changing room, hoping to find Hiccup there by himself.
(And hoping to see something else, a little voice in his mind provides. It's a good thing Jack isn't one to blush and can ignore that voice like he's been doing the last few months.)]
psh I couldn't ignore you, bb
It wasn't like Ravenclaw hadn't lost a game since he became captain this year. He gets pats on the back and hair ruffles from his teammates, that's about it, but he's fine with that. Hiccup's never really been one to sing himself praises, even with a few of his friends insisting that he should. Everything was a competition to them though, and Quidditch was no different.
He'd seen the lone messages of support, even when his focus should've been on the snitch, the bright green catching his eye easily among the sea of blue and red, his cheeks a heavy pink under the sides of his helmet. He hadn't been expecting to gain a friend out of the tutoring business. Usually people just thanked him for the help, credited themselves when they scored well on their exam, and then went about their way.
But Jack had stayed. Stuck around. In the beginning, Hiccup had been expecting to have his secrets exposed, Toothless taken from him. His hand had clutched around his wand every session, preparing for an Obliviation spell, but as time drew on, he became more relaxed around Jack. Shoulders once tense loosened up. Hiccup allowed himself to laugh more, and not in a self-depreciating kind of way.]
Hiccup, you coming?
[He looked over his shoulder from where he was shucking off his Quidditch gear to look at the Keeper, Fishlegs. Shaking his head, he pulled the top half of his gear off, shaking his hair free along with the two braids he'd taken to putting in his hair in the last few months.]
You go on ahead without me. You know I'm not the partying type.
[Fishlegs raises an eyebrow, but shrugs and continues on his way, passing Jack and unable to help giving the Slytherin boy a raised eyebrow. When Jack sneaks his way into the change room, Hiccup is sitting down on a free area, reaching up to rub at a shoulder. His form is even scrawnier under the bulk of the Quidditch gear, the pants encasing his hips in a way his school uniform doesn't. Small scars dot his back, burn and claw marks from dealing with hiding Toothless under his robes.]
u//u you're too good for me ♥
Whatever he had to say gets caught in his throat when he finds Hiccup sitting there, bare back and tight pants making him lick his lips. Oh, he got to see something after all, alright. He can guess where the scars come from, and that only makes him admire Hiccup more. How could the boy even think he was useless? More important wizards wouldn't dare to deal with a dragon like he does every day. Silly boy, he's perfect the way he is.
Jack shakes his head to get rid of dangerous thoughts (not gonna screw up this, nonono!) and takes a few steps inside in Hiccup's direction, but keeping a safe distance to respect the other boy's space. This is a changing room after all, and things may get awkward - can't make Hiccup uncomfortable. Jack doesn't trust himself.]
Congratulations, Captain. [His tone is teasing but at the same time honestly supporting, a big smile showing up on his face like it always does when he's around Hiccup.] Very responsible of you not to get drunk with the rest of your team.
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Hiccup runs his fingers through his wild auburn hair, tilting his head back to stretch his spine a little. He'd gotten grazed by a bludger before the Beaters came in to the rescue, the impact just knocking him but not hard enough to damage anything important. A darkening bruise dotted the side of his ribs, just peeking up from underneath the rim of his pants.
The voice catches his attention, though, and he tilted his head back too far that he ended up falling backwards off his perch. Quidditch captain down! He grinned sheepishly up at Jack, reaching up to brush his bangs away from his face and a stray bit of hay.]
Well, y'know, someone needs to stand by the door to the common room when they're too tipsy to answer the riddle anymore. Might as well be me.
( ˘ ³˘) ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Hanging out with Hiccup always makes things seem easier than they are.]
Ooooor you could grab some popcorn and enjoy the show. Can you imagine them at 3am, throwing random words until one of them works as a password?
[Damn, he's too tempted to do just that now... but staying with his best friend is more appealing. Sometimes he wonders if the professors have noticed a little less chaos in their lives, with Jack being busy with some real company for a change. They must be so proud of Hiccup, thinking he was a good influence on the troublesome boy. Oh, if they only knew.
He crouches in front of Hiccup and stays there, thoughts of helping him up suddenly gone when he sees that sheepish grin and bangs going wild around his friend's head. A little more teasing can't hurt, right? That's how they usually roll anyway, snarking at each other. Besides... Jack is liking the view.]
I was going to offer to throw our own little celebration, but it seems you already have plans for the rest of the day, mmmh?
uwu
[It's drawled, laced with sarcasm as Jack crouches down in front of him, brows raised. Honestly sometimes he didn't understand why his teammates didn't do the smart thing and get drunk in the common room and not leave. He never really saw the point in getting drunk anyway, given he came from a long standing viking village where meade was drunk on a regular basis.
He blew the stray piece of hay out of his hair before he turned himself over so he could push up onto his arms, giving a slight laugh. Hiccup reaches up to tuck a strand of hair behind his ear, lips quirking at the corner into a smirk as he leaned down on an elbow, placing his free hand on his hip.]
Well it's not like they're going to disappear if they don't work out the riddle. They'll probably just pass out outside the door.
[It had happened before anyway.
He remembered Jack's little displays during the match and his cheeks darkened, coughing into his hand before straightening himself into a proper sitting position, brushing hay off of his Quidditch pants.]
Uh, good...ah...good game, huh?
no subject
Hi there, Captain. Good to see you as graceful as always.
[The idea of watching Ravenclaw students pass out on the hallways of the castle is quite tempting too, but Jack sticks to his plan of staying with Hiccup. His friend didn't say no to his offer, right? Though he didn't say yes either. He's about to ask properly when he notices Hiccup getting red and awkward, and Jack arches an eyebrow. What the hell? He thought they were more comfortable around each other now!
The evil voice in his head provides some mean answers, maybe Hiccup does want to go to the party and check out certain drunk classmates, winkwinknudgenudge? Nah, ridiculous. Jack is thinking too hard about this. Hiccup is a dork, he knows that, and he likes his friend that way. End of the story.]
It was a great game. They didn't have a chance against you.
[He doesn't know much about Quidditch but he can tell as much. And somehow, having this conversation on the floor of the feaking changing room isn't weird at all. In fact, it's kinda... cozy? Or maybe Jack just feels like that whenever he can relax with Hiccup like this. So comfortable that he barely notices when his hand moves to help Hiccup brush off the hay of his hair. He could use a spell, but... he likes this better.]
I almost hexed a Beater when that bludger hit you, though. [He glances down, frowning at the sight of the dark bruise.] Don't you need something for that?
no subject
[Truth there. He'd fallen off his broom during third year from a height that would've broken his neck but only caused him a few broken bones which, thanks to Madam Pompfrey's potions, had been easily fixed. His cheeks flare again when Jack says the opposition didn't have a chance, reaching up to rub the back of his neck. What to do, what to say? He didn't know. He was still getting used to the idea that he had another friend under his belt.]
A few strategies never hurt anyone. Bit like wizard's chess really.
[Hiccup bites his bottom lip and lets his hand slide down from his neck, placing it on his hip again as he stands properly. He's starting to get taller, muscles a bit more defined, starting to fill out that viking physique he should have had long ago.
Standing here, bare chested, in front of Jack makes him feel a bit queasy.]
What was this offer you were going to throw my way?
no subject
[Strategy has never been Jack's thing. His pranks may need preparation and planning, but that's about it. He makes his way through magic duels and snowball fights the same way: shooting spells at everything.
His cocky grin appears again when Hiccup blushes once more, this time because of him. Yup, much better, let's get all the Hiccpressions. Jack doesn't move at first, too busy staring at Hiccup as he moves. He definitely can tell those changes, not only the fact they're the same height now. How much more "filling out" is on the way? Because damn.
It's Hiccup's question that makes him snap out of it. Jack quickly stands up and takes a few steps back, reminding himself to respect that personal space. He runs his fingers through his hair and looks away, clearing his voice before speaking again.]
Ah, right. I thought we could... well, celebrate a bit too? I know you aren't one to party but you still deserve it, and I kinda got some food and drinks from the kitchen so... yeah. [He suddenly sighs.] ...this sounds dumb when I said it out loud. You should celebrate with your team, not me.
no subject
[He may or may not be in a bit of a bragging mood. Winning a Quidditch match has that effect on Hiccup, even if he doesn't see it as a competition in any way, shape or form. He knows people have begun looking at him a bit more than they used to because of the changes puberty is putting his body through at last, watches the way their eyes cross over his shoulders and examine his face.
Jack's confession about his plans and then his sigh make Hiccup smile a bit, the corners of his lips twitching.]
The common room's probably going to be crowded. I don't really think I'm up for a huge party.
no subject
[Jack doesn't mind the bragging mood. Hiccup seriously needs to be proud of himself more often. Besides, this way they can have a little sassing session. It's always fun, and Jack enjoys it greatly. Having someone that plays along is such an amazing thing to have.
That smile makes him feel less awkward, and he returns it. It feels so good to be chosen over the team. To hell with them, today Hiccup's time is Jack's.]
Well, you kinda earned it. But I'm taking that as "yes", so no complaints from me. [He looks Hiccup up and down and arches his eyebrows.] Are you going to show off your new body around the castle or should I wait for you to get dressed?
no subject
[The response just then is coy, smile curling into a smirk. Hiccup really doesn't mind spending time with Jack over his team, and he's sure that they'll continue on without him easily. Before Jack, there wasn't much time between study, classes, Quidditch and taking care of Toothless, but now Jack time was free time. Jack time was time where he could forget about being a good student.
He arches his eyebrows in return, looking down at himself before spreading his arms from where his hands were on his hips, giving a shrug.]
I dunno, I've seen a few ladies look my way. I'm sure there's a few people around here who'd appreciate it.
[Have an eyebrow waggle.]
no subject
[Jack laughs, because seeing Hiccup of all people waggle his eyebrows is simply too funny not to. But inside, his mind is about to explode. Yeah, there definitely is at least one person here that appreciates it. His hands go to his robes' pockets, not knowing what to do with them, or more like, not wanting to do what his brain proposes. He's grateful for his ability to laugh at everything, it allows him to hide his thoughts better - especially that little ball of anger that always shows up when he thinks about those asshole that suddenly pay attention to Hiccup because of his looks. Ugh.]
You better change then. I don't want a "lady" to win you over, you'll pay attention to her instead of me then. [His tone is teasing, but he has to admit that worries him sometimes.]
no subject
[The response is a simple few words, but words that Hiccup practically purrs out. A hand goes back to his hip as he cocks it, raising an eyebrow before he chuckles and picks up a spare towel to throw in Jack's face.]
Alright. Give me a couple of minutes to get changed.
[Picking his regular clothes off of the seat he'd been sitting on, Hiccup tosses them over his shoulder with a wink at Jack before disappearing into the shower stalls.]
no subject
[Ok, maybe that nickname isn't accurate anymore, but old habits die hard. Jack doesn't dodge the towel that hits him straight on the face, he's a little distracted by the purring and the wink. Why does this have to happen to him? With his first and only friend? WHY. He gives Hiccup a nod and waits for him to disappear before he takes the towel and throws it against the wall.]
I'm such an idiot!
[Staying there while Hiccup is fucking changing will only makes things worse, since his mind has this great habit of taking notes and using them for dreams later. He goes outside, cursing under his breath, and calls an Accio to make the paper bag he had hidden before the match come to his arms. The elves in the kitchen make things too easy for Jack, bless their pointy ears.
He doesn't go back to the changing room until he hears Hiccup's steps on the hay, indicating he's back too.] Ready to go, oh great champion of the brooms?
no subject
Muggle clothing had always been something Hiccup had preferred over wizard robes, though he does make a mental note to send an order to Madam Malkin's - his clothing is getting smaller again, if the way the hoodie stretches across his chest is any indication. Dropping his towel off from his hair over one of the stalls, Hiccup runs his fingers through the wild auburn mess, beginning to do the little braid and looking at Jack when he speaks.]
Sure. Where're we going?
watch me take rooms invented by the videogames
This time he doesn't hesitate, he's telling himself again that there's nothing wrong with some friendly touching, so he gets closer and ruffles Hiccup's hair. Would he be allowed to help with the braid some day? He still remembers how to do it after his sister taught him.]
You don't look half bad in those, you know. [His turn to wink.] Thaaaat is a surprise. But I'll let you choose the how. We can sneak through a corridor I found ooooor you can fly us there. Which I think is the way it's supposed to be entered anyway.
lmao (also insert 'A Whole New World')
He ducks his head out from under Jack's hand at the hair ruffle, tying the braid off with a hair tie he kept on his person. Who knew? Maybe some day he'd let those fingers run themselves through his hair and tie the braid for him.]
Well you're the one that picked them out for me, I should hope so. [He smiles at the notion that Jack set up a surprise, before reaching to grab his broom from where it's resting, shouldering it.] If it's supposed to be entered by flying, then it's supposed to be entered by flying. C'mon, then.
pffft just the other day I was imagining Stoick as the Sultan and Pitch as Jafar
[This is their regular kind of teasing, what helped them to be good friends, so it shouldn't bother Jack. And to be honest, it doesn't, but lately he can't help noticing how much it sounds like flirting. Hiccup winked at him before, for fuck's sake. He should stop, he really should, because he feels like isn't being honest to his friend anymore... but he simply can't. He can't let go of this, because it's all that he has.
When Hiccup accepts flying them there, Jack's face transforms in a second, beaming as if he was the one that won a cup today. He doesn't have a lot of experience flying, but the few times he tried it felt amazing, being up there with just the wind. And with Hiccup being the amazing flier that he is, this can only get a thousand times better.
Laughing with glee, he moves the paper bag to his left hand and uses his right to grab Hiccup by his wrist and drag him outside, taking a few steps until they're right in the middle of the way between training grounds and changing rooms. He turns around and points at the castle, sounding excited as hell. He's never entered that room the "right way".]
See that window over there? With the Hogwarts crest?
[It isn't exactly a window, more like a stained glass, but one can't expect Jack to know the right term. He's bouncing on his feet as he explains.]
You have to fly us right through the H.
lmao Stoick is an angrier version of the Sultan
[There goes his voice again, deepening into a purr. He really needs to stop that, and it's obvious in the way he lifts his free hand to rub the back of his neck awkwardly after, shifting his fingers through still wet hair. He wasn't flirting with his best friend. No, no he definitely wasn't. But you are, part of him whispered, and Hiccup shook his head to clear that voice out.
One look at Jack's face, though, is enough to make his own cheeks redden and he glances away from the Slytherin boy only to be dragged outside, nearly stumbling after him. Hiccup stands himself up straight when they stop, pulling his broom from where it rested over his shoulder and standing it brush-side down, taking his arm back and squinting to examine the entrance Jack was pointing at.]
You mean the stained glass window? [Huh. He'd never seen that one before. Hiccup rolled his shoulders, then swept his broom up and between his legs, raising an eyebrow at Jack.] Y'know, you're gonna have to lean in really close to me if we're flying straight through the H.
you know Toothless would make a fantastic tiger
He nods at Hiccup's question, assuming that's what those kind of decorative glasses are called. His bouncing stops when the broom gets ready and hears his friend's observation. He gulps, awkwardness suddenly taking over. This is your real plan, to be close to him and then take him to a private place, just the two of yo- NO. A shake of his head and a determined look after, and he gets on the broom behind Hiccup, using an attachment spell to stick the paper bag with the food to the end of the broom. That way nothing falls in the way and nothing stands between themSTOP.]
Why, Mister Haddock, is that some kind of invitation? [Fighting the need to put his arms around his Hiccup's waist, he opts for resting his hands on his friend's shoulders. But he can't stop himself from leaning in and whispering in his ear.] Show me.
yeeeep
