[ It took a whole day and night just to clean the mess out of their old den, tossing rotten material out and sweeping, dusting, icing parts of it that needed a better scouring. The next two days were spent gathering new authentic furs (some from the same or similar locations as before, stolen from wealthy homesteads that really wouldn't miss them) for the nest and a new bathing bowl for the corner out of sight beside it, a jug and mirror to prop up there, brushes and (with a modern touch) toothpaste, facewash, lots of towels. In the adjacent alcove is a ton of silver foil wrapping, but that's only there because of Jack's temperature as he gathered the food. Fish pies, fresh cold slabs of meat on the bone; pints of mead and fruit juice are once more stored in his own version of a freezer.
Walking into the den-proper, there's a clean smell from the opening leading one way and a rich cloying scent of food from the other, but the only thing on view head-on is the renewed nest. This is where Jack lies on his back (glad for the dozens of duvets providing a mattress of sorts underneath all the furs), minus his hoodie (hung up on the same natural hook of rock his old cape used to rest on) with his ankles crossed, chinning a hand where he smiles up at Hiccup.
He was even careful enough to light new candles ensconced in the walls once more. ]
This is the part where you laugh and call me hopelessly nostalgic. Or romantic, either one.
