[It's spat back with equal force as her own words, even as he pushes all of his weight into his attack. In his youth, Hiccup was never one of the more formidable fighters, but as he grew older, into a chief and then into a spirit, he learned that not everyone could be pacified by words. Sometimes force needed to be used.

Merida was one of his oldest friends. He didn't count her on the same level as Astrid because Astrid had been his wife, had always been there since their younger years, but when they'd become spirits something had drifted them apart. Whether it was their duties or something else, Hiccup would never know, but he had been sitting on a bitterness for the last one thousand years that was exploding in Merida's face right now.

He didn't question what this was, he didn't need to. He swung his sword again, forcing hers back with a vicious ferocity, using his weight and height against her to push her down.]
